DescriptionLondon County Council, on 9 November 1920, decided, as a mark of its appreciation, to present each member of the staff who served in the Great War, or to the next-of-kin of those who died on service, a short history of the war so far as the staff were concerned, with brief particulars of their service. Contents detail the Western Front 1914 (Mons, the Marne and the Aisne, Antwerp, La Bassee and Armetieres, Ypres), the Western Front 1915 (Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Ypres, Aubers Ridge, Festubert, Loos and Hulluch), the Western Front 1916 (The Bluff and St Eloi, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, and the Ancre), the Western Front 1917 (The Ancre and the German retrest, Arras and Vimy Ridge, Messines, Lombartzyde, Ypres, Lens, Camrbrai), the Western Front 1918 (The Somme, the Lys, the Aisne, the Marne, Amiens, Arras, Havrincourt and Epehy, Cambrai and the Hindenburg Line, Flanders, Le Cateau, the Selle and the Sambre, Armistice), the Royal Navy, The Royal Air Force, Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine, Mesopotamia, Salonica, British Troops in Italy, British Troops in Russia, British Troops in Africa, deaths from diseases. Also includes an index of names on the Council's staff mentioned in the text, and an appendix giving brief details of the war service of the Council's staff (arranged by LCC section, listing name, length of time overseas, and location where fought).
